Four Pertinent Legal Topics (and Workshop Session)

Join us for "Four Pertinent Legal Topics" with Laura Katers Reilly, a Marquette attorney who specialize in employment law. 

From 10 am to 12 noon, Laura will present on the following legal topics:

1. Coping with COVID: The latest on mandates and workplace policies for masks, vaccines, and testing

  • OSHA + Michigan MIOSHA mandate status
  • Employer policies best practices: Bargaining effects of the mandates in union contracts, NLRB General Counsel memo.

2. Legal aspects of remote and hybrid work

  • Wage and hour considerations
  • Workers in other states
  • Recordkeeping, expense reimbursement, notice and posting requirements

3. Fair Labor Standards Act

  • The new tip pooling regulations
  • Double-check your exempt/nonexempt status: 2020 salary minimum increase

4. Developing law after the Bostock decision: Courts grapple with sexual orientation and transgender discrimination in the workplace


From 1 to 3 pm, Participants are invited to work with each other to workshop the legal topics. This workshop session will be led by UPHRA Board Members.


ABOUT OUR PRESENTER:

Laura Katers Reilly
Attorney at Law at Kendricks, Bordeau, Keefe, Seavoy & Larsen, PC

Laura is a Marquette native. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School where she served as editor-in-chief of the Wisconsin Law Review. Laura maintains her Wisconsin licensure as a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Laura serves as a management representative on the board of the U.P. Labor-Management Council and is active in other local and civic organizations. She has also been named as a "Rising Star" in Michigan Super Lawyers.  She has a general practice with an emphasis on management-side labor and employment law, business law, real estate, and estate planning.
